A little bit about John G. Lanning

Given the rest of this site, I would love to tell you that I got my considerable photographic skills because of some cosmic meteor shower or because I was attacked by some radioactive rodent. The truth is somwheat less dramatic and, thankfully, involves a lot less spandex. I discovered photography in High School and decided that "this is it" for me! I continued my education at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in New York where I was part of the Professional Photographic Illustration department. I focused my studies in the Contemporary, Illustrative and Commercial Photography program. All of this earned me a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a super-secret RIT Alumni decoder ring and a lot of debt...

I returned home to Dallas after graduation in 1990 and got my start in the traditional manner by assisting other photographers. I have since worked my way up the food chain to shooting for myself (oddly enough, it turned out that this didn't involve death-match style confrontations with the other local photographers. *sigh*... and I spent all those years perfecting my special "Strobe Attack"...).  While skilled in all areas of photography, I specialize in product photography with an emphasis on jewelry, toys, technology and other products that are small and detailed. Clients for whom I have shot include AMX, GTE, Ignition, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Poulan / Weedeater, Smithsonian, Sundance Digital and Zales.

UPDATE! In 2008 I relocated to Raleigh, NC and am in the process of establishing myself and my studio there. I'm still doing the same, high quality work, just in a new location.

The various comic and movie characters depicted on these pages are the property of their respective license holders. What I have shown on this site are photos of products available at most comic or toy stores. These photos illustrate my abilities as a photographer and it should not be construed that Wolverine endorses my services. Although I would love to have him in charge of billing...
